1:30 pm - 2:30 pm. Cooking with Annemarie Ahearn, owner Salt Water Farm
A food demonstration using seasonal ingredients to produce flavorful and balanced dishes that can easily be reproduced at home.

3:00 pm - 4:00 pm. Desserts with Creative Catering
Eileen Bartlett, owner of Creative Catering, will guide us through creating Blueberry Walnut Cheese Tarts and Strawberries with Swedish Cream.

Introduction to Ayurvedic Medicine by Deborah Keene
Ayurveda, pronounced “Ah-Your-Vay-Dah” is the ancient, nature based medicine from India.  In this workshop we will explore the basic underlying principles of Ayurveda including the “food is medicine” principle, daily routines, and natural therapies all designed around the unique needs of each person’s mind-body-spirit make-up.   We will also look at the connection between the ways we live and how we feel, the importance of living in harmony with the rhythms and cycles of the seasons, and how to recognize some of the early signs and symptoms of imbalances.

Grow a Medicine Chest in Your Back Yard
Hippocrates, the Father of Modern Medicine called the elderberry his medicine chest. Elderberries grow abundantly throughout the state of Maine, and have been used for generations in the form of tinctures, syrups and wines not only to support human health and well-being, but more specifically to address seasonal flu. “Grow a Medicine Chest in Your Back Yard” will address the culture and horticulture of this antioxidant rich medicinal plant. Participants will learn of its history, uses, and some of the current Phyto-medicinal research in supporting of the elderberries effectiveness in fighting cold and flu-like symptoms and providing overall immune system support. Edie Johnston, owner of Maine Medicinals and Eldertide Farm will offer directions on how to grow, preserve and use elderberries to help to keep your family and friends healthy through the year.
